Awesome things I've seen at the gym…

1.  Guy in the hot tub with a sweet mullet

2.  Guy in the hot tub wearing banana hammock swimsuit that ties at the side

3.  the fact that #’s 1 and 2 were in the hot tub at the same time.

4.  Old bald guy powdering his nuts.  Sounds routine for a gym locker room, but  his stance and motion were exactly like Jesus polishing his bowling ball.

5.  Fat black guy who is always naked, straddling the bench, listening to music, sometimes singing along. (think Biz Markie).  However, for all the times i’ve seen him singing naked, I’ve never seen him in the actual workout areas.

6.  A couple of girls who were maybe 7′s.

Crazy Heart at the Angelika Film Center

Very excited to see this….pix are gonna be boring…obviously.

I was dumb enough to get in the “single man” line thinking it was for people who were by themselves…and really its the name of another movie playing.

This may be the rural majority actually…

“Kids do things like this, and its out of your control.  You can only do the best you can as a Mother.  I mean everybody makes mistakes.”

At least child protective services isn’t overreacting like they usually do in these cases.  We can all sleep better knowing that.

Say it aint so…

I heard John Frusciante quit RHCP today. If so, god damn it!!! Their albums are so much better when he is involved…. I’m not sure I’d even buy a new RHCP album without him.

Head to the sports book before Saturday evening

Driving up to Syracuse this weekend to take in some college basketball and to see some ol’ friends. Been a while since I’ve been to this city – always enjoy going. Something about upstate NY and Syracuse that I really enjoy, might be the cheaper beers and the great wings, might be that enormous mall, or most likely, it’s just the people. Just a breath of fresh air in many ways.

But this w/e is more than just fun; in fact it’ll take on a serious tone for about two hours. That’s because I’m seeing the St. Bonaventure Bonnies take on the #5th ranked Syracuse Orangemen at the Carrier Dome. This one has the makings of a game that could get ugly quick. I mean, I expect a 50-point blowout. A game chalk-full of rim-rocking alley-oops that would make Dr. J blush. Three-pointers from all over. A defensive stifiling. A dismantling like no other. Hopefully the Bonnies will call their dogs off at the intermission.

Looking forward to it, indeed.

Making it happen

I’m sure everyone is shocked that I have indeed made it through my first semester. I feel as though I have learned so much about sound, and the recording of sound, and even a lot of music theory. In four months I have learned all the properties that a sound wave possesses; the way it moves through a medium(solid, liquid, and gas) , the different types (longitudinal, and transverse), the way our brains perceive frequencies dependent on volume (Fletcher Munson), how to use the doppler effect to explain the frequency change as a source emitting sound moves toward and away from the listener or if the listener is moving towards or away from the source, the threshold of hearing and the threshold of pain, and how sound works with equipment. I have also learned how speakers and microphones work through magnetism (dynamic and ribbon mics) and electricity (condensers), the difference between analog and digital recording (physical/binary), impedance (resistance) in Ohms and how devices handle power, I have recorded four different projects so far using Pro Tools HD with both analog and digital controllers I prefer the digital controller because it also controls Pro Tools, I have learned the principles behind designing a recording studio that will deliver the best sound quality, I have learned how to get the best sound just using mics without any compressors or EQs,  I have performed in a voice recital where I sang a solo for the entire vocal department, and I played in a percussion ensemble and performed in a concert. I have learned a lot about music as well, I’ve learned how do build triads with inversion, I’ve learned all the major, minor, natural minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales, I’ve learned all about rhythm (simple/complex meter) and how to count through measures of it.

I’m excited to see what the next semester brings. I’m taking Recording, music theory and music theory lab, keyboard lab, voice, performance class, psychology, english, and Bowling. I’ll keep everyone updated, I love you all.
